Prayer Of Confession, September 29, 2024
Holy God, you have called us to be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. Yet we, your church, resist subjection even to Christ! How much less have we humbled ourselves before one another. We, the members of your body, have not shown your body the tender care it requires. You have likened the love you would see in your church to the intimate love and loyalty of husband and wife, yet we confess that all is not right in our dearest relationships, and we are far from applying this faithful love to your church. There is disobedience, pride, provocation, and anger among us, but little discipline, obedience, or instruction in the Lord. Rather than doing your will for your pleasure and with singleness of heart, we render service with little enthusiasm. Amen Forgive us, Lord! Make us mindful that we serve you alone, who have given Christ Jesus to suffer and die for us; we do not labor for human approval, but knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from you, for you are the Lord over all, and with you there is no partiality. Yes, forgive and lead us, in Jesus’ name! Amen
