Prayer Of Confession, August 25, 2024
O Lord our God, we confess that we have sinned as our ancestors did who first ate of the fruit of the tree. By exalting ourselves, we have fallen further away through disobedience. Instead of bearing good fruit, we have tried to hide from you our sins and our fruitless pursuits in garments of fig leaves. We have chosen things that lead to death rather than life, and blamed one another for our own faults. We have failed to believe you with our whole hearts, and we, your church, have replaced prayer before your heavenly throne with peddling of worldly things. Forgive us, O Christ. In your wrath, may you remember your mercy. O Lord, you are our God; hear our supplications, be our strong deliverer, and cover our heads in the day of battle. For we are as children, crying, “Save us! Hosanna to the Son of David!” Let our prayers that proceed from our deepest need be as praises to your ears. Then the righteous shall give thanks to your holy name, and the upright shall live in your presence. These things we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen
