Prayer Of Confession, October 8, 2023
We confess, O Lord, that we have not followed you wholeheartedly, nor have we loved one another as you have loved us. We have feared scarcity, failing to trust in your provision. We have suffered disgrace, and our sins have covered us with shame. Yet we have not forgotten you, and our hearts have not turned back. Though we may die for you and counted as sheep for the slaughter, yet we know that Christ Jesus, your Son, has gone this way before. He has paid the ultimate price for us, has called us to follow him and to calculate the cost. Therefore, rise up, O God of the covenant! Forgive our sins and come quickly to our aid. Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love. For we are sunk very low and our bodies cling to the dust. Rouse yourself, O Lord! Do not cast us off forever! For though the world offers up many gods, we call upon you, knowing that you alone are the God who saves, and you will rescue us unharmed from the battles that we wage. Therefore, we have hope in you and in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen
